Is a circuit breaker the same as a safety switch?
No. A circuit breaker protects wiring and equipment from overcurrent; a safety switch is designed to reduce electric-shock risk. Some devices combine both functions. Ask a licensed electrician to identify what is installed.
Do Queensland smoke-alarm rules require a change now?
The answer depends on the property and whether it is being sold, rented or re-rented. Queensland Fire Department says those transactions already require the updated alarms, while the final general dwelling deadline is 1 January 2027. Check the current guidance for your situation.
Who can install smoke alarms?
A licensed electrician must connect a 240-volt smoke alarm to the electricity supply. Some compliant battery-powered alarms do not need electrical connection. Check the required alarm type and the installer before agreeing to work.
